Blogging and Writing Tips

Writing
  1. Never use acronyms, e.g. POP, no one understands except internally within eH.
  2. Check your facts before things are published online.
  3. Never copy content wholesale, or a whole paragraph; summarize, paraphrase. The best is to write on your own.
  4. Don't make your post boring. Add interesting facts, share experiences or add jokes to capture the attention of your readers.
  5. Add pictures to your post to make it interesting.
  6. Even if you have interesting content in your blog, an 'uncatchy' title might not get you many views, so come up with a catchy title.
  7. If explaining something in detail is too much of a hassle, hyperlink it to a website that has the information.
  8. Re-read your work several times; check your grammar and punctuation before sending it to your supervisor.
  9. After you have uploaded the content, view the formatting and check all the points mentioned in No.10 below.
  10. After your supervisor has approved the content, please make sure the following when you update the content into websites and blog sites. Ensure:      
  •    the font size of the title is bigger than the content
  •    the font of the subtitle is the same throughout the article
  •    the font side of the text is the same throughout the article
  •    there are at least 2 spacing between the title and the first line in the   paragraph
  •    standardize the spacing between the subtitle and the text (if there is no spacing, then make sure this is standardized                 
  •    throughout the whole article; if there is a spacing, make sure it is standardized)
  •    spacing in the text should be the same throughout the whole article.
  •    for bullet points, there should be an indentation
  • view your formatted content several times, check everything from No. 10 before sending it to your supervisor. 

Pictures
  1. Ensure captions in pictures are clear – who, what is going on.
  2. Pictures – Use what you take from your camera, watermark with your name and date taken or credit yourself online; Never use pictures from other websites unless they are free for the taking.
  3. After inserting pictures, make sure it is properly formatted within the context of the text, either left, right or centre. Do not leave to much space between text and picture. Avoid crowding the article with pictures and text. Format it properly for easy reading.
